Poem to a book no more

Photography for me is an expression of visual art combined with a non-traditional form of poetry . In French it is referred to as “vers libre”. My poem is to be imagined and experienced side by side with the photographs.

Transitions Later Before 2012-2014

In this series of photographs I am interested in the intersection of the real world and illusion. I am photographing people in situations where their communication worlds have become virtual experiences, where only a fine line separates the real from the surreal.

Harmonices Mundi – 2000 - 2008

Looking at Karin Hillmer’s photographs will require you to slow down and look closer. Take your time. Relax. These photographs can speak to you, if you let them, for each image is a story in itself.

The Virtual You in a Me-World

In this series of photographs, a small piece of jewelry, a pendant in the shape of a small doll, becomes a surrogate for the human figure. The object and its environment are staged in a really small world in my studio.

Infinity & Dreams: photographs inspired by the short stories of J. L. Borges

This series of photographs is inspired by the short stories in Collected Fictions by the Argentine writer Jorge Louis Borges.

Artist Book

This small 3-of-a-kind harmonica book measures about 12 x 12 cm. Front and back covers are made of matting board covered with pages from an old book.

In 2015 I felt I had to rebalance my creative energies after the large project of Infinity & Dreams, both the series of photographs as well as the book.
